I found a couple of different articles that I could have used but this particular article answered my question perfectly. The article I used was; "A Comparison of Physical Therapy, Chiropractic Manipulation, and Provision of an Educational Booklet for the Treatment of Patients with Low Back Pain — NEJM." New England Journal of Medicine. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Jan. 2017.At first the article discusses back pain, just generalizing the pain people feel. This is a very common area that people want treatment for and both physical therapists and chiropractors perform treatments to help treat back pain. Then the article moves on to discuss study sites, treatments, randomization, and different subjects. Next, the article then goes to compare physical therapy and chiropractic care. They work to fic the same things but how they go about treating patients is very different. Treatments differ, patient care differs, anything you can imagine differs between the two occupations. The article then even talks about the overall outcomes for both physical therapy and chiropractic care and the cost of the PT or chiropractic care. A potential quote or sentence that spoke to me was “ The assessment of short-term outcome focused on the effects of the assigned treatment on symptoms, the level of function, and the level of disability; the assessment of long-term outcomes focused on recurrences of low back pain and the use of back-related health care.” This quote spoke to me because any patient can come into the clinic and have short and long-term goals. They can be the same or they can be different, everyone has different goals and it amazes to me to be able to see first hand a lot of those goals become reality for those patients. This source is credible because it was just recently published so therefore, the evidence and statistical data used is up-to-date. Also, The New England Journal of Medicine is a very popular journal organization. It is widely viewed by a variety of people. The website has many links and they actually worked, I even tested some myself.I will be able to use this article for my project because it compares and contrasts physical therapy and chiropractic care. It gives great advantages and disadvantages to both sides of each occupation and this will help move my project along.
